TOP 5 HOT SPOTS TO VISIT IN ARGENTINA ON YOUR SPORTS TOUR
Argentina. A country of endless variety and a perfect school tour destination. A country filled with a stupendous range of colours, scents, styles, architecture, geography and sport – soccer, rugby, golf, hockey etc. A country of culture and traditions, spectacular music, dance and folklore shows, museums, legendary ruins and art.
Argentina has a vast and diverse landscape with some incredible natural wonders, perfect for en ecological school tour. From the mountains of the Andes to the flat deserts of the north – the scenery is varied and beautiful and together with the bustling cities and towns, this is the perfect place to take a sports tour.
1. THE IGUAZU FALLS
The diversity of this fantastic country is reflected in the combination of bustling cosmopolitan cities and incredible natural wonders like the Iguazu Falls, which are deeper than the Niagara Falls and wider than the Victoria Falls.
If a school sports team decides to visit the Iguazu Falls, one of the planet’s most awe-inspiring sights, nothing will prepare them for the sight and sound of so much water falling so hard from so many jungle-clad cliffs.
As part of your school sport tour you can stay in this fantastic area, taking walks over the paths of the falls and guided jungle hikes to see some of the amazing animals residing in this area.
2. VISIT A PRETTY TOWN – SAN ANTONIO DE ARECO
Nestled among lush farmlands, San Antonio de Areco is probably one of the most beautiful towns in the pampas. It’s an easy drive from Buenos Aires and a cultural school group can easily take a day trip to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and picturesque colonial streets.
If you take a sports or cultural school tour in November the group can see Gauchos from all over the pampas show up for November’s Dia de la Tradicion, where the group will catch them and their horses strutting the cobbled streets in their finery.
3. ENJOY A BOAT CRUISE ON THE TIGRE AND DELTA
The city of Tigre is only a short 35km trip north of Buenos Aires and is an excellent half day trip for any school tour group. Although the delta is one of the most popular getaway regions to visit and the city itself offers a few pleasant attractions for sports groups, it’s the Tigre that everyone is after.
Boat rides can be taken by groups on these Latte-coloured waters which are rich in iron and hidden gems from the jungle streams flowing from inland South America.
4. DRINK HOT CHOCOLATE AT THE GLACIAR PERITO MORENO
What Iguazu Falls is to water, the Perito Moreno is to ice. Among earth’s most dynamic and accessible ice fields, Glaciar Perito Moreno is the stunning centrepiece of the southern sector of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares.
Any school tour group will stand amazed before the 30km long, 5km wide and 60m high glacier. It creeps forward up to 2m per day, causing building-sized iceberg to calve from its face falling down into the waters of Lago Argentino.
5. SWIM IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN – MAR DEL PLATA
Mar del Plata is the most important resort in Argentina, and offers school sport groups more than 17 kilometres of beaches.
Let your school group visit Museo del Mar which houses the most extensive seashell collection they are ever likely to see, or Catedral de San Pedro, a neo-Gothic building featuring gorgeous stained glass and an impressive central chandelier from France or if they’d like, take a swim in the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.
